Lose weight with MyFitnessPal, the fastest and easiest to use calorie counter. With the largest food database of any calorie counter (over 1.5 million foods), and amazingly fast food and exercise entry, we’ll help you take those extra pounds off!

MyFitnessPal is a great way to start down the road to a better lifestyle, and the way that the app works makes it fun and competitive to lose weight, without putting you in an environment where that is all that matters. I have personally watched a few of my close friends and family members use this app to completely transform their lifestyle, and I can testify that this app was a huge piece of it.

This app is thorough, with over 1.5 million foods in the calorie counter, a free barcode scanner, saved foods, and recipe calculator, social integration, online interface, the ability to create custom foods, over 350 exercises (including cardio and strength training, input for sets, reps, and weight), the ability to create custom exercises, the ability to input your own calorie burns that you would read off exercise machines, customized goals and objectives, and a reports system that track your weight and measurements and gives you a daily nutritional summary. Wow! That’s a lot of features, and for free too!

Built on a nice, but simple design, MyFitnessPal lacks a certain degree of polish, but more than compensates with an attractive, easy to use interface. The app is easy to use, though at times the organization of the foods database can be a bit cumbersome.

Some small complaints, the fact that you must be 18+ (which is most likely set up for liability) implies that teenagers and other young adults cannot effectively change their lifestyle, and turns away that demographic from making those much needed changes. The food database could also use some significant organization, and no calories appear to be burnt when doing weight training. Some users report issues with the internet connectivity of the app, but this problem seems to effect a small degree of visitors.

Overall, I believe that this app is still a great choice for people looking to start supporting a healthier lifestyle. While the app certainly doesn’t do the work for you, MyFitnessPal attempts to make losing weight and exercising fun, and allows you to compete through “social media” so that you can see that you aren’t alone in your endeavors. And when an app like this is free, it’s always worth a try.
